Actors' Headshots

Last week I had an opportunity to shoot some headshots for a small theatre company in Reading. Being married to Sarah - a drama student when we met and, more recently, a working actress - I have made tonnes of headshots for her, her friends and colleagues over the years and each session has been a learning experience.

What really fascinates me is that the end product - a well-lit and engaging black and white portrait - often seems dead simple. But there is a lot to think about, and there are always challenges to overcome. Taking good headshots is a piece of cake. Great headshots require patience, craft, and above all a good rapport with your subject. Oh, and some good lighting doesn't hurt either!

BTS images after the jump.
