Fashion photography in East London

fashion photograph of a female model in a white hatThose of you who follow me on facebook have already had a sneaky preview of a fashion photography shoot I did at the end of last year for my dear friend Una Hussey. Una is an amazing designer and has also assisted me as a stylist on a few projects over the past few months. After weeks of talking about collaborating together on a project, I was finally able to help bring Una's creations to life.

2012 - 20 of the best!!

2012 has been a very exciting year - terrifying, exhilarating and rewarding in almost equal measure. I have relied a great deal on the support of my wife Sarah, my parents and our many wonderful friends.

Below are some of the visual highlights of 2012 from the afnanstudios blog in roughly chronological order. I am also processing a number of images taken over the last few weeks that are really, really special and I still have one or two photoshoots before the world year ends. Keep checking the blog over the Christmas and New Year for more updates. But for the time being enjoy!:

To print or not to print

I recently had a new sample wedding album printed and am reworking my portfolios in preparation for 2013. At the same time, news broke of Instagram - one of the worlds biggest photo-sharing services - revealing plans to sell users photographs against their will and without compensation. I got to thinking about the relationship between the traditional world of print and the infinitely complex world of digital media. Musings and reflections below...

Theatre Photography in London and the South West

Theatre photography from the 2012 shakespeare schools festivalThis autumn has been an unusually busy period here at Afnan Studios! The main cause of this has been a number of opportunities for theatre photography in London and the south west. I've done PR and production images for Little Sapling Theatre, Quite Nice Theatre and State of the Heart Story Telling. The actors headshots keep rolling in with both new and repeat clients.  And finally, I have visited twelve theatres and photographed over 40 abridged Shakespeare plays as part of the 2012 Shakespeare Schools Festival.

Keep reading for some stunning examples of theatre photography in London and the South West.

Mica Smith - Bournemouth music photography

A couple of weeks ago, I had the pleasure of photographing two incredibly talented musicians, Mica and Bonnie Smith. The retouch on Mica's photos is all finished and I'm really excited to share a few of the images!

Product photography - original plugz

I was recently contacted by Sarah and Michael of OriginalPlugz.com and asked to do some product photography for a range of products that promise to be among the hottest mobile phone accessories around and a must have for Christmas!

The plugz are both aesthetic and functional as they also protect your phone, ipod, tablet etc. from dust and debris that can make their way in behind the screen.

For more info and to get your order in before the crowds catch on, check out OriginalPlugz.com and join them over on facebook.

Thanks for looking!

How to get great actors headshots

Recently I have had the opportunity to do a number of headshot sessions for actors in Reading and London.

I absolutely love doing them. But many actors find headshots awkward at best and, frankly, terrifying at worst!

This used to perplex me. My wife Sarah is an actress and I had seen her totally at ease with lights, cameras, audiences, you name it. But as soon as I sat her down and tried to take her picture, she became ever so slightly tense and irritable (soz dearest!)

I quickly learned that there is one very fundamental reason for this.

Sitting for a headshot is many things.... but it most certainly aint acting!
