Avon Calling

This week I spent a day's fishing on one of my favourite rivers, the Hampshire Avon. It was a day blessed with beautiful weather and loads of fish... but ultimately cursed with failed photographic equipment and a broken rod tip.

Fishy tales and more images after the jump...

Deconstructing the 'fairytale fishing' image

Since posting a series of fly-fishing images from my recent trip to Scotland, the above image in particular has received a lot of attention. When Sarah first saw it she said 'wow, it looks like you're fishing through a fairytale!' I liked that description because it's exactly how I felt as I followed the stream up into the Ochil hills.

The main question I keep getting asked is whether or not the image is a 'fake'. The answer, of course, is 'no'.

Well... not exactly.

I'll explain what I mean and how the shot came together after the jump.

Fly fishing photography (Afnan stylee!)

I have updated the 'commercial' section of my website with a new set of fly fishing images taken on a recent trip to Scotland!
The trip presented an opportunity to experiment and learn about the application of studio lights and lighting techniques to fly fishing photography. It was also the first serious outing for my Pual C. Buff Vagabond battery pack, which is literally revolutionising my approach to sports photography and environmental portraiture.
